Going Offline for a Bit
Two family medical emergencies have occurred over the past two months which have rendered my ability to write anything (here on this blog on in my books) impossible. One of the emergencies, unfortunately, ended with the passing of a member of my family. The other is requiring my girlfriend to be bedridden for an extended period of time - which, in turn, requires me to be carrying more of the day-to-day work to take care of her.
This being the case, I will not be posting anything new on this site for a while, at least not until April, 2025. Politically, this could not have happened at a worse time, but it is what it is. The Trump Administration is largely moving along the path I wrote about on how Trump could become a dictator, though there are some positive signs of pushback from the courts and from the Republicans in Congress . . . but the emphasis must be placed on the word "some". The most critical sign to watch for at this point is whether SCOTUS pushes back on the Trump Administration's blatant trampling of the Constitution - and if and what any counter-push will be (the worst case being Trump ignoring SCOTUS and Congress failing to hold him accountable).
More worrisome is the fact that the Democrats are having a hard time pulling together to form a clear and concise opposition. Some of them are even openly courting MAGA, which is even worse. While I cannot go into details now, my suggestion for the Democrats are as follows:
* Change the narrative of the debate to fundamentals. Do not engage MAGAism on every single issue, but rather frame each issue within the context of "good v. bad" government; between preserving a "Constitutional Democratic-Republic" against "Authoritarian Christian Nationalism"; and
* When confronting on each single issue, approach the issue from that of individual rights. Abortion was a winning issue in 2022 not because abortion is for the "common good", but because each individual woman has a right to her body. The Democrats must extend this perspective to all issues (e.g., combating climate change is not for "saving the planet" but protecting each individual's property from destruction; immigration reform not for the "national interest", but for protecting the inalienable rights of each peaceful individual to live in a country where such rights are protected, etc.). The focus on demographics and treating people as monolithic groups MUST come to an end.
